Frank Williams, an Advanced Manufacturing Alliance student at Edgecombe Community College and an NC Back-to-Work student, recently applied for a scholarship with the SECU Foundation’s Continuing Education Scholarship Program. As a pilot program, the Foundation awarded $120,000 to the 16 NC Community Colleges with NC Back-to-Work programs.
The target groups for the program are unemployment insurance claimants, unemployed & underemployed adults, military veterans, and members of the NC National Guard. The statewide roll-out of the Continuing Education Scholarship Program will begin July 1, 2013 and continue through June 30, 2014.
Mr. Williams says, “Due to the lack of employment opportunities, I began attending classes at Edgecombe Community College…to pursue a career…to increase my skill set and transition to a new career. This transition has not been easy while trying to support a family. Nevertheless, I still remain self-motivated and vigilant in completing my goal of obtaining my degree.†Mr. Williams enrolled in the Electrical/Electronics program in January of 2013.
